The Key English Test (KET), also known as A2 Key, is a Cambridge English Qualification for beginner-level English learners. The writing section is integrated into the Reading and Writing paper, which accounts for 50% of the total exam score. Here are the details of the KET Writing exam:

Overview of the Reading and Writing Paper:

  • Time Duration: 60 minutes (Reading and Writing combined)
  • Number of Parts: 7 parts (Reading: 5 parts, Writing: 2 parts)

  • Focus: Tests basic writing skills and your ability to produce simple sentences.

Part 7: Guided Writing

  • Task: Write a short message (e.g., an email or note) based on given information. You might be asked to respond to an email or write a short note, typically around 25-35 words.
  • Focus: The task tests your ability to:
    • Write simple, coherent sentences.
    • Respond appropriately to the context.
    • Use basic grammar and vocabulary accurately.

Sample Writing Tasks:

  • Part 6 Example:
    • Fill in the blank: “I always _____ (go/goes) to the gym after work.”
    • Choose the correct word or phrase to complete the sentence.
  • Part 7 Example:

The writing tasks in KET focus on everyday topics and common situations, ensuring that students can communicate at a basic level in written English.
